How to fix a sloppy shifter on a Honda Acty
On a 1990–1999 Honda Acty, a loose or wandering shifter usually comes from worn bushings in three places: the shift linkage, the rubber under the shifter base, and the linkage pivot pins. After 30 years they harden, crack or go soft. Replacing them brings back a tight, direct shift. I did it on my own 1991 HA4.

The three places that wear
1. Shift linkage bushings
The bushings in the linkage between the lever and the transmission harden and crack. Signs: the shifter wanders, the gate feels vague, and there's slop before anything moves. Fix: the shift linkage bushing kit (9 pieces).
2. Shifter base bushings
The shifter base sits on rubber bushings that go soft with age. Signs: the whole lever rocks on its mount and feels mushy. Fix: the solid shifter base bushings (6 pieces).
3. Linkage pivot pins
Wear at the pivot pins lets the linkage slide side to side. Signs: side-to-side slop you can feel in the lever. Fix: the pivot spacers + cotter pins.
If the shifter feels tight but the gears grind, the problem is more likely the clutch or the inside of the transmission, and new bushings won't fix it.
Which kit do I need?
If the shifter wanders between gears, start with the linkage kit; it's the one most people buy first. If the lever also rocks at its base, add the base bushings. To cover every wear point at once, get all three. Etsy takes 15% off automatically when all three are in your cart together.

From my own truck
I rebuilt the shifter on my 1991 HA4 with these parts. I've driven on the printed linkage kit for more than five months with no issues, and the same base bushings and linkage bushings are used on the HH3/HH4 Acty Street van.
“Fit perfectly....much better than the worn originals.”
Questions
Why is my Honda Acty shifter so sloppy?
On a 1990–1999 Acty, a loose or wandering shifter usually comes from worn bushings: hardened or cracked bushings in the shift linkage, soft rubber under the shifter base, and play at the linkage pivot pins.
Which shifter kit should I buy first?
If the shifter wanders between gears, start with the shift linkage bushing kit. If the whole lever rocks at its base, add the base bushings. Doing all three kits at once covers every wear point, and Etsy takes 15% off when they're in your cart together.
Do the shifter kits fit the Acty van?
Yes. The linkage bushings and base bushings are the same on the HA4 truck and the HH3/HH4 Acty Street van, and the pivot spacers fit all four models.
Will new bushings fix grinding gears?
No. If the shifter feels tight but gears grind, the problem is more likely the clutch or the inside of the transmission.
Are 3D-printed shifter bushings durable?
They're printed in PETG. I've driven on the printed linkage kit in my own 1991 HA4 for more than five months with no issues.
